I don't think a rat and a glider would be a good mix.
A glider is not a rodent, and I would be afraid the two might fight.
One of my gliders tried beating up a mouse that got into
its cage!

As for the nipping thing, most gliders outgrow it-its
pretty much a baby thing. To deter them from nipping, I'd blow
in their faces-no harm done but they get the point. Glider noses are very
sensitive, and even a light tap might hurt-they are pretty tiny!
There was a big discussion on glider biting and ways to deter them a couple of
weeks ago.

As for toys gliders like, experiment-mine like all sorts of stuff and
you can find things around the house for them. Mine especially like
stuffed animals and plush things that are their own size.
