The first step would be to contact the Division of Wildlife (or whatever they call it on CA) and find out their requirements. In CO, they require scientific studies proving that the animal would not survive if released here. I suspect that CA has a similar law. Of course, because of temperatures in CA, they probably could survive if they are released or escape.

The main concern in CO and probably in CA is that gliders or other non-native species could take over habitat and endanger native wildlife. Unless you can prove that there is no chance of survival, they probably will not make it legal.

To many people this seems unreasonable, but think of rabbits in Australia, and foxes too. The made a mess of native wildlife and are still doing so today.
