Hi! We also have a glider and have had him a little over a year. My boys are 10 and 12 so I can relate to what you are asking. The only thing I can say from my own personal experience is that the bite isn't that bad,(at least not with my glider). He only nibbles once in a while, and if I say no he stops. He does pee and poop on whoever holds him though, so the kids would have to understand that. Also, they move rather quickly and you must be very careful around them. My son wanted the sugarglider, but has now lost interest. One of the reasons is because he doesn't come out til 10pm or so and seldom wants to come out in the day time. Its a scheduling thing. I am the primary caregiver, therefore the glider is attached to me the most. I would carefully consider everything before getting one. I understand they can live 18 years, and thats quite a commitment.
I really love him, his name is Petri and he has quite a personality. It is amazing to me how varied all the gliders seem to be. I have heard lots of different information out there about everything from feeding to daytime play, etc.
