Well it's kinda like this: Here in the States it is illegal to own or confine a wild animal such as squirrels, raccoons, deer etc. Sugar gliders are protected over there and are often considered pests. We protect the alligators too but I'm sure there are several people in Florida who would disagree with the statement that they are rare.
