My vet recommended it when I rescued a glider with a severe calcium deficiency. Since I have lizards, snakes, tortoises and birds as well as gliders, this was easy because I keep all of them under this type of lighting during the day as alot of them are housed in my grooming shop in the basement of my home during the winter - unfortunately being underground, there isn't alot of sunlight to be had and the full spectrum bulbs work wonders. They simulate natural sunlight and are the next best thing. During the summer tho, I put these guys out on the screened porch in such a way that they can bask in direct light if they need to or seek shade if they wish. : These bulbs are expensive, but well worth the investment - my birds breed year 'round, my reptiles are extremely healthy, and my gliders are doing very well. Of course, this kind of lighting is futile without the correct diet.... Thanks for the info as my animal house only has one way in and one way out and no windows as i live WAY out in the boonies and if someone wants in they will have to take down the walls.I think one 4 foot light on each end will be sufficient.Oh by the way i have never had any problems with my gliders but i dont want to,i bought a generator BEFORE the power went off
