Out of all eight of mine.(all I have adopted) I have had no problem with them getting used to me. Usually I would leave them alone, but talk to them in a gentle voice. Let him have treats every once in a while. Open the door, and let him come out when he is ready. It may take time. If you want to hold him, try picking him up in a wash cloth, so he feels safe and hidden still.
