One way you can tell if it is a male, is whether it has a pouch in front or not. Only the females have a pouch.
Also, I have had my male for about a month, and I am still working on the bonding. It has gotten better, of course, but it definately takes time. Also, the best time to bond is the early afternoon, they are still very groggy, and It seems to be the best time to get them to stay in one spot long enough to get your scent.
