The problem with frequent cage scrubbings is that this actually increases the males need to mark. Every time you erase his scent, he is compelled to replace it.

As for the itchy, bumpy claw marks, I have the worst reaction to babies. I think they try to cling harder and that makes larger punctures to itch. I find that if I wash immediately with anti-bacterial soap, the itch is less and the bumps recede quicker.
