: I'm a bit confused! I thought that it was not a good idea to use wood when buildind a cage. I have been reading through the old archives and I thought that someone said that it absorbed the urine and was almost impossible to sanitize. I'm not trying to start anything here, my husband and I are going cage supply hunting this week so I am just finding out the facts before we do! Thanks! The first cage I made had a wooden frame. Even though the wood was painted with (children's furniture) acrylic paint, it still absorbed the urine (smelled awful) and was impossible to keep clean. My new cage is made entirely from 16 gauge vinyl coated wire (no frame needed) and held together with plastic cable ties so it can be easily dismantled when I move. You can see a picture of my cage and instructions for making a basic cage using this method. Making Your Own Sugar Glider Cage Clara
