I use bird cage protectors, the things that hang on a bird cage to keep mites away, kept at the far end of the cage from food for safety. And make sure there's adequate ventilation around the cage, not drafty. Make sure there are no damp areas, especially around foods. Don't put food on the floor, always put it in bowl or on plate and remove everything in the morning, don't be tempted to wait until evening feeding time to clean up. Use hot soapy water otherwise the organizms live, and rinse well. Also, the cage should be in a filtered light area, fruit flys like damp dark dirty places, shun the light. The gliders do not need to be kept in a dark room during the day.
