Subject: Biting

My Foster is only 3 months old, and a real cuddly pal. Recently he has started biting. He doesn't bite hard; they are like little test-bites to see if my fingers are edible. The bites always come after he has been licking my fingers. Nevertheless, it hurts, and he needs to learn that biting of any kind is unacceptable. At first I uttered a sharp "No" to him. It didn't really work. Then my boyfriend tried blowing a sharp little burst of air on his face. Didn't work. Today, I tapped his nose like you do with a cat, and I also uttered a sharp "No." It was 6 hours before he tried it again, where the other tactics bought us about 30 seconds. Any other suggestions on ways to discourage his biting? I'm sure he isn't doing it to be mean, but it hurts!

Thanks,
Kim
