We use manzania (sp?)wood in the cages. Most pet stores carry it in either the reptile or bird section...
It is a hard wood that I have found that does not retain much of a urine odor.

I used oak branches for a while, but my gliders 'piddle' really soaked in... phew!
If you do decide to collect branches from outside, make sure you soak them down with a bleach/water solution and/or bake them for a bit. There's lots of creepy, crawly, lil'critters lurking in and under the bark.
