It is fairly normal for a new mom to be very protective of her lil'ones. When i first got an older glider (~2 yrs. old) and she had lil'ones come OOP, I couldnt go near either her or the babies. I believe personally, that this is because we (she & I) werent completely bonded yet. We had come a long way while she was still carrying her joeys, but not far enough that she would trust me with her young ones...
I have had her for well over a year now and been through 2 cycles of babies (currently working on my 3rd :) and she is as docile as can be... she'll actually just look up at me (kinda like saying 'oh, its you again') and then bury her head... not the least bit concerned that Im stealing her baby for a few hours.

I have seen my gliders (M/F alike) mark their cages...
As for her marking you... :( mine will also will mark me occasionally. The only one who gets away without being corrected is a 'mommy'. (Usually, my gliders seem to respond to my tone of voice.) And I only allow 'mom' to do it because the joeys react to her scent... associating both myself & mom... with safety & trust.

Hope this helps...
