Usually seems to mean -- "Hey, is anyone out there, I'm lonely, Pay attention to me"

My male likes to play hide and seek -- if I dont go looking for hum, he will start to bark until I make an effort to find him
He also barks at night/early,early morning, if I speak to him he usually shuts up
