I have never used a tether, which is the type that you are describing. I only use the figure 8 leash and only the ones made by Beverly Oakes of Glider Gulch. The others are not nearly as well constructed and the knots slip much too easily. The other problem that I have with the tethers is that you have to put them on tight enough that the gliders can not take their front paws and remove them yet loose enough that they do not choke them.
