I had the same problem with my youngest glider-
she did seem really afraid of heights and I could
never get her to glide no matter what I tried with her--
she just refused to. She is now a year and a half and
still really doesn't glide-she does little 1 footers, but
anything long or high takes her a few minutes to actually
get the courage to go, and she only glides when there is no
easier way down.

So maybe there are gliders out there that are really afraid of heights
and you have one like mine.
