AKs, I looked and looked because there is one good long set of posts on this, but apparently "allergy" isn't in the title, so I couldn't find it. Anyway, from those I gathered that these are the perfect pets for those with allergies. They have little dander, and don't really shed.

That being said, the previous owner of my two sold them because she was allergic to them. I never met her but her husband told me she got a skin rash from handling them. I kind of wonder if it was a true allergy. Before I learned to wear long sleeves and pants around my critters I had tons of "kitten scratches" and pokes all over me which did have a little redness around them, but I wouldn't call it an allergy. (No, I haven't bonded with them well enough to clip their nails yet...)

I for one am allergic to the salvia on the Sugar Gliders claws as well as the salvia of cats. When scratched within minutes my skin where pricked will whelp up and then start itching severly. I will itch for hours. Washing with hot water and bacterial soap right away will keep bacterial infections at bay.

I have to keep my gliders nails trimmed every 10 or 11 days so my hands do not get scratched or pricked. I also wear long sleeves and long pants.

I suspect Judie is allergic to the proteins in the saliva (i.e. dander) rather than the saliva itself.
