When sugar gliders get loose, they sometimes like to play hide and seek. smile
Mine always go find a dark room and go find a box or a backpack or something to climb into and hide and fall asleep. Or they will just run around the house everywhere til they get tired, then they go find a place to sleep. the best way to catch them is to block all passages they would have to get outside or somewhere they can get into things (eg, toilets, disposals, trashcans, inside couches)
but the best thing to do is when you let them out of the cage keep an eye out.. but best of all prevention is the best thing you can do, never let your glider play unattended in your house.

The first thing you need to do when a glider gets loose is be VERY VERY SURE the lid to the toilet is DOWN. (It's best to get in the habit of keeping it down.) My gliders like to "hole up" hiding up in the curtains, in the closet, in a pile of clothes, almost anywhere. They usually go to sleep. I know when to get them because they send things crashing...Whenever I hear things falling, I know a glider's on the loose. My original f GG would hide until she got hungry; then she'd bark for me to open her cage so she could eat. The gliders have taken over my room, but when I still slept there, the first thing any loose glider would do is jumo onto my bed and run over the top of my head. L'il Joe, GG's great grandson came all the way to the other end of the house to jump on me when he got out. I took him home, but within hours he got out again and this time he nibbled on my toes when he got out. Then he took off before I could catch him. The next morning I found him back in the cage - to my shock. He's the only glider who got back into the cage himself---and I finally figured out how he was getting in and out and put a stop to it. Gliders really are pretty smart animals.

Once, i thought my cage was shut when i went to bed. i woke up at three in the morning with a sugar glider looking at me in the eyes! i got up and tried to catch him. ( i was sorry i had taught him how to play hide and seek (-: ) finally, i said in a stern voice "Chopper, GET BACK IN YOU CAGE!)

LOL I do a lot of lace crochet, and the string I do it with comes on a little cardboard "spool" just the perfect size to be a cozy hideaway for my Lilbit! I once spent 6 frantic hours lookin for her one day only to stop for a minute to see if I could be quite enough to hear her somewhere, picked up my crochet thread and had a very annoyed little face pop out of it and look at me as if to say "How dare you!" wink

The only time any of my animals got loose was when I went on vacation to visit my grandparents. I brought Murry (he was my only glider at the time) in a small travel cage. My grandmother is terrified of mice, and she avoided my little guy like the plague, constantly saying, "He better not get loose." Well, my sister and I set up the cage in our guest room and left him sleeping in his pouch to get dinner. When we came back up (2 hours later) he was gone!!! :O

In a panic we rushed around the room turning over everything to find him. All of a sudden, I stopped and listened. I called out his name, and suddenly heard something make a crinkling noise in the closet. My sister opened up the closet and there he was sitting on his bum with the corner of a plastic bag in his little hands, innocently looking up at me as if to say, "Hey mom wanna play with this neat bag I found???"

Needless to say, we made extra care to wire the doors shut on his travel cage VERY tightly, and neither of us mention it to my grandmom (it'd give her a heart-attack). raspberry
