I have had my glider for about a week or so and she just really does not seem to take to people. During the day I leave her be and when she starts moving at night I try to handle her but she has a bad reaction to it. what can I do

Theresa, do you have Caroline MacPherson's book SUGAR GLIDERS? It is a MUST HAVE for anyone with sugar gliders. The publisher is Barrons, and you should be able to get it at any major bookstore for less than $10. Everyone has his own opinion, but this is how I train gliders. First of all you need a pouch. (I don't sew and am lazy, so I go to Target - luggage department - and get the little cotton security pouch---preferably the one with the cord you wear around your neck. Put the glider in the pouch and keep it with you all day if possible. The glider will sleep during the day, but it will be getting used to your scent. Always offer your glider treats when he is in the pouch; again, he'll associate treats with you and the pouch. I never just leave treats for the gliders. I always get them to come to me.....The last glider I bought learned within one day to respond to "Lady, come!" Good luck.

during the day try carring her around with you while she/he sleeps. in a pocket or something close to your body. also try hanging a dirty sock in her cage so she/he gets used to your smell. mine was the same way. so every time i walked in his room, i stroked him, and petted him, and murmered those lovey-dovey words and repeatedly said his name.
