I have had my glider for about 5 months. When I got her, I chose to only get one glider so that she and I would have an opportunity to get to know one another and bond. I want to get her a buddy to keep her company when I am not around and to have someone to snuggle with when sleeping. When I bring a new glider home, how do I go about introducing her (we want another female) to Tucker? Should I have a 2nd backup cage? I don't want Tuck to get upset and then have no where to keep the new baby.
I guess the bottom line is....is there a protocol for introducing a new glider to your already established glider? I don't want any violence between them (certainly no blood shed!!)
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Yes, you will need to quarantine your new glider for at LEAST 30 days before allowing any contact between your gliders. Keep the cages in separate rooms and wash your hands between gliders and change clothes. This may sound a bit much, but one sick glider is better than two sick gliders. I rescued a pair this summer and I did the quarantine and it turned out the little girl was sick. I am SO glad I was careful. She is ok now.
Here is a link for after the quarantine over:

I wished I had done that, but I did keep them in separate cages, next to each other. Turned out that my little guy was extremely sick, I am so glad I did not just throw them both in one cage.

So when I bring the joey home, I should have a new cage in another room, with all the needed accessories? (toys, nestbox, bowls, water bottle) and keep her there for a month or so? Then move the new cage into Tucker's room (that's what we call the room where her cage is) and then place the cage's side by side so they can get to know each other through the cages? Then start to introduce them in a third room? Then start to swap accessories between the cages? (ie bowls, nest boxes) and after all this and they are getting along in their "meetings" then I can eventually put them together in a third neutral cage? That's a lot of cages and a lot of extra money to introduce them. This is the only recommended way? frown
How do I go about spending quality bonding time with both of them when the two of them can't be around each other? I carry Tucker with me when Im at home. How could I still spend the quality time with Tucker that she needs/deserves, and still spend sufficient time with the joey to bond with her? Any suggestions?
