I live in southern California near L.A. and I have been wanting to get my male glider neutered. I was curious if anyone could tell me how to find a vet in my area that will treat and has experience treating gliders. I know I'm not supposed to have them here but I just couldn't give up my babies. Thank you for your help.

This is a forum for discussion. Placements of messages wanting sugar gliders or selling sugar gliders will be deleted. Jen, From what I've heard it will be just about impossible for you to find a vet to treat, let alone neuter, your glider in California. It is my understanding that a vet could face being shut down if they are caught treating a glider and a glider if found in Ca. faces being confiscated and put down. Please reconsider keeping your glider there in California, there are rescue places that would be most happy to take in your glider and provide it with a safe environment in which to live out its' life. Please give this some thought for your glider's sake.

Jen- Check out the ferret boards for an exotic animal vet. Ferrets are also banned in California (STUPID law), but many people insist upon owning them. Although vets can get in trouble for treating banned animals, many will help rather than let an animal go without care. In the meantime, see what you can do to get the laws changed.

As the others have said, u r not alowed to have a glider in Californa. Unless you want it to be put down because it is a banned animal, u might try seeing whether somebody in a legal place wants to buy it from u (I happen to be curious.)Or a rescue place. Just a suggestion.

http://www.sugarglider.net there is a vet list...and I believe it lists a few vets in CA.

if you call a vet ask them what their policy on gliders are BEFORE you tell them who you are or bring him in...some places will put them down, but they will tell you this first. you dont happen to live near a boarder do you? good luck

Simply call the vet b4 you bring him in. Most vets in cali WILL take illegal animals IF they know how to treat them. And they won't turn you in. If you go to that site that someone gave you, there's a really great vet on their that's use to gliders. Try him if you're not too far away from him.
