My sugar gliders are proud parents of a 6 day oop joey. They seem to be doing pretty good with him. I am just concerned because it is their first joey and the female is only 9 months and the male is 7 1/2 months. What signs do I need to watch for to see if they are neglecting the joey????? Tonight I noticed that the joey was in the pouch by himself. The male and female were eating. It didn't last too long. Is this anything to be concerned with? Thanks

I have read that sometimes the male seems to be neglecting the joey at first, but acually is really dedicated to the joey. That's all I know

Just make sure that the parents don't leave him long enough for him to get cold and as long as his little tummy is full, he'll be fine. Gliders, for the most part, are wonderful parents and very protective of their young. Good luck!

Hey its natural for them to leave to go eat. I have now 7 week OOP joeys and is my females first litter, and my males second. They had twins the first time, amazing! and they are both healthy happy gliders (boys). Just make sure the parents are well taken care of and everything, and they will do their part as parents. I was worried at first as well and I was also prepared with esbilac emergency pack, heating pad, and syringes just in case. Good Luck
