Hello, I have just purchased my first sugar glider. She is a 6 month old female. I need some suggestions on what I can do to get her to start bonding with me. How long does it usually take for a glider to bond? The only time she crabs at me is when she is in her pouch during the day. At night when I feed her she will sometimes let me gently stroke her back, but I can tell it makes her VERY unconfortable. She seems very shy. Any suggestions as to how I can start to get her to trust me and convince her that I am her friend would be much appreciated.

as often as you can while she is in the cage offer her licky treats, just a few licks then leave her alone, but as often as you can, that way she will associate your hands with good things. leave her in her cage for a few days to allow her to geet accustomed to her surroundings. DON'T chase her. or Hold her allow her to hold you.

start here and give her a chance to learn to trust you. as for bonding well that varies from glider to glider, sometimes it don't take long, others it can take years. depends on the glider
Don't worry about bonding, that is something that grows with time. Start with trust building first. you want her to know you are her safe zone. Go slow, allow her to move at her own pace. Good luck

If you want an easy way for your glider to bond with you, just pet her while she is sleeping. Then when she wakes up she will sniff you but not really bite. Just let her sniff you long enough to get your scent. This is an easy method because they are still asleep. It might take awhile for her to really get to know your scent to where she will let you hold her and pet her.
