I think one of the best places to start your research is on Bourbon's page. Just go to the links section and she should be the first one on the list. You need to learn a lot of stuff before you get your glider so do as much research as you possibly can before then. I will just list a few things I wish I would have known before I got my glider.
1. Put an old stinky t-shirt you don't want anymore in your gliders cage so he gets used to your scent.
2. Don't use cedar or pine bedding for the bottom of his cage.(I use aspen bedding)
3. Find a vet that knows how to treat gliders BEFORE you get your glider.
4. Have lots of patience, some gliders take a while to bond to their owner but don't give up because the reward is worth the wait.
Oh and by the way (also in the links section) there is a lady by the name of Betsy who makes awesome pouches, look for Betsy's Custom Creations.

We just brought our glider home on Friday night. We researched for a couple of days before bringing her home, and IT WAS NOT ENOUGH!! We already have fallen in love with her and hope that our failures will not hurt her. Pay special attention to the diet sections, and ask lots of questions.

If you do not already have Caroline MacPherson's book SUGAR GLIDERS (publisher Barrons), you need to get and read it. It's a must have reference book for any glider owner.....When you go to get your glider from the breeder, handle it there - making sure you get along. (Gliders have individual personalities and likes/dislikes or their own.) Should you not get along too well, ask the breeder if you can see another one...Also, in light of a number of people getting burned with ill or malnourished animals, I think I'd ask for a 30-day health guarantee...this assumes that you will properly care for the animal when you get it. Even with a guarantee, you would have no claims unless you could prove negligence or that the animal was not healthy when you got it....You can forget that if you know the breeder/his reputation....I am not trying to scare you, but a number of people have really been burned recently. Good luck. I wish you well with your glider.
