I thought the chicken sticks and eggs would be enough also the Gerber baby food has protein in it. If it is not enough I want to know. I want to do every thing I can to keep my sweeties healthy. What else would you suggest? Is there anything else I should be doing. By the way someone said cherries are poisonous to them. Gerber makes a cherries delight in a baby jar and I was wanting to know if it is okay.

It's not the cherries themselves that are poisonous, it's the pits. They contain cyanide. If a person ate one no big deal, but in something as small as a glider... BIG deal!

Mary and others, I use a version of leadbeaters and fresh fruit and veggies and I also give them some chicken sticks (Gerber baby food) By the way does anyone know how much RepCal to put in the leadbeaters?

Dont feed the chicken sticks because they usually contain unhealthy additives like garlic, onion and preservatives. Plus they can be high in fat. For protein it is important to feed a lot of insects such as crickets and mealworms, and the leadbeaters of course provides protein. Other protein sources are tofu and even vegetables provide protein. Also you can give your glider monkey biscuits, mazuri omnivore zoo feed, or Insectavore-fare. I wouldn't recommend feeding much chicken or egg because there are a lot of these in the Modified leadbeaters.

What version of the leadbeaters are you using? It is important that you understand the diet issues before just throwing things together. on the diets link about has several versions of the leadbeaters but it also has other diet plans as well. Please stay with one plan, that is healthy and provides in it the necessary nutrients.

Mine is 1cup of Apple juice, 1cup of honey, 1/2 cup of wheat germ, 2 hardboiled eggs, some fruit and veggies, and high protein mixed grains baby cereal by Gerber, and I also now add the RepCal about 2 teaspoons. They love it. I also feed them a lot of fruit and veggies. And for a treat I give them some Gerber baby food like Hawaiin delight. Is this OK?

It sounds like you need more protein in this diet. The leadbeaters is fine, but you should also feed insects (mealies, crickets). If you are squeemish about insects you can feed freeze-dried insects or insectavore-fare pellet food. You can also add more protein into your leadbeaters by maybe adding some tofu, chicken baby food, high protein baby cereal instead of the mixed cereal (if you can find it), and some people even add insects to their leadbeaters. Their are many things you can do to boost the protein level in your diet.

leadbeaters is great in my opinion helps keep things balanced, (I feed with fruits and veggies I try to feed mostly fruits and veggies with more calcium than phosphorus) also mealies, and occasionally crickets. The problem I have with the crickets is, I have them in this small plastic aquarium thing, and my cats really want to get those crickets so they knock the aquarium around until it falls over. Can I buy the live crickets, and just stick them in the freezer?

Leadbeaters is meant to be feed with fruit and veggies eaachnight...as well as crickets or mealworms durring the day or night. Chrissy you can feed them frozen if your gliders will eat them that way...some glider wil only eat it if itsmoving. Maybe try just freezing a few andsee if they will eat them that way...you don't want to waste a bunch of crickets.

It depends on the leadbeaters mix. If you use the basic leadbeaters mix (like Ruth's), you should supplement it with extra protein. If you are using Bourbon's, you should not give extra protein. When I say extra protein, I don't mean insects. Those should be given regardless. So no matter what leadbeaters you choose, just make sure you understand the full diet that goes along with it...don't just pick a recipe. Pick a DIET.
