Merry Christmas everybody! I'd like to know what special things they did for/with their gliders for the holidays. This gives me ideas for spoiling: one of my favorite glider activities.

Mine got: some licky treat eggnog, and a 20 gallon tank that I'm going to set up as a cricket hunting ground. smile

I am away from Maddie for the holiday ;( I am in California and Maddie is with a glider sitter heehee. However, for Christmas I got a few new things for her cage. I got a new rope, toy and chew thing for her. I think she will love them. As soon as I get back I will put her new toys in her cage. They seem like nothing compared to a 20 gallon hunting ground!!!That is great!

Wodent wheels and brand new polar fleece pouches which I made entirely toooo large. Let me know how the aquarium works as a hunting habit - - I think it would be hard on the gliders. (You could use one of those tall plastic cups like you get at McD's etc. and secure it to the side of the cage and put the crickets in. The gliders soon learn to plunge right in for the buggers!

Well, Barb, I will let you know how it goes. I am going to try it out tonight or tomorrow morning. Why would it be hard on them? I am attaching a ladder, and have put in a big piece of driftwood that used to be in their cage so they can get out easily. I have two oversized paper towel rolls from my work (the household size seems too small for them - they get stuck!)

Dobby got so nippy giving crickets to him from my fingers that I have been putting the crickets in the small carrying case and he goes in there and grabs them. But as they are hunters in the wild, I thought it would be good for them to look for the crickets a bit.

Well, I'm sure the pouches aren't too big as far as they're concerned. I've only made one pouch, out of a shirt, and I made it entirely too long too. raspberry

Mine got some catnip free cat toys. One was like a little furry mouse and a fur covered ball for Coco. A hanging mouse and a ball with bells, and a fur-covered ball for Oreo. For dinner they both got turkey and custard baby food.

Santa teepee pouches? Cool! I can't figure out what a teepee pouch is, though. I heard a few people gave them stockings for pouches which is EXTREMELY cute and I plan on doing that next year - didn't even think of it! I'm surprised we haven't seen some pictures of little glider heads poking out of a stocking.

Well, the cricket hunting ground is okay. Not great, because as Barb pointed out, the glass is not ideal. I watch them carefully and leave at least one arm in there for moral support / emergency escape route in case of claustrophobia / panic. They have learned very quickly where the ladder is, and how to hop from the driftwood to the outer rim of the aquarium though. Basically, it will probably work fine, but I am a little overprotective of my pregnant female getting stressed. If I were to do it over, (and I might - ONE definate advantage of being a glider owner over the age of 16 is that one has a little better budget...) I would make the hunting ground out of wood. The crickets might escape easier, but I tend to put them in just before getting the gliders out anyway. Cardboard isn't good I don't think. With the Christmas season we have had a lot of cardboard boxes around, and inevitably when a glider goes into one, they panic and jump and jump until I come save them. (Can't get a foothold.)

Thanks for sharing, guys! Happy New Year! smile

Mine got two new pouches (so I can wash one and while it dries they have the other) and a hollowed out coconut with a big hole in it and an outer door cut out around it so if you want to take them out. They love it. I got it from Marie at TomPole@aol.com. She has a webpage but it's not on any list and I'm afraid I don't remember the website. Marie is the breeder whom I've gotten my two rescues from. She sells other things and they're rather cheap and cages too. If you're interested (coconut was under $15) e-mail her and I'm sure she'll give you her website address. Happy Glider New Year!!!!!!! wink
