First of all, cut the nuts out of his diet. It is very important that you limit the amount of fat that he is ingesting, and nuts contain an very large amount of fat. Some people feed their gliders nuts as occassional treats, meaning once or twice a month. Since Gizmo is chubby, I wouldn't even feed nuts as a treat. From what I know about wheat and oatmeal, your glider is getting a lot of carbohydrates, but not much protein (correct me if I'm wrong please!). If he consumes too ny carbohydrates, the amount that is not used willbe stored as fat. You need to lower his carbohydrate intake and increase his protein. You need to switch him to a proven diet that has been researched and used by other glider owners in the past. Bourbon has a list of possible diets on her page. I will put a link at the bottom of this message. Personally, I feed Bourbon's Modified Leadbeaters to my gliders. They love it, and it is very health. She is constantly doing research to update her diet, so I trust it the most. It is your choice. I simply wanted to recommend one for you. I also recommend buying a wodent wheel for Gizmo. My gliders all love their wheels and I am actually about to buy another for a new glider that I should be getting this week. I don't know how they lived without one before Wodent Wheels are a great form of exercise, but they are also much safer than other wheels. Regular hamster and other small animal wheels have rungs and bars that are very dangerous. Gliders can slip while running, miss a rung with thier feet, and get their foot caught between the bars. Obviously, this is very dangerous and the glider will likely lose a foot or leg. Also, gliders can get their tails caught in the supporting bars of the wheels. Whodent wheels are almost completely enclosed and are much quieter than regular wheels. There is one size of wodent wheel that is made specifically for gliders. These are the only wheels that I recommend to anyone with gliders, and I think that everyone will agree that they are the safest. They are manufactured by transonique. I will list that link at the bottom also. I hope this helps. Please keep us all updated on how Gizmo is doing and any changes you decide to make Bourbon's page of links <a href=http://www.angelfire.com/nb/sugarglider/index.html>http://www.angelfire.com/nb/sugarglider/index.html</a> Transonique (Wodent Wheels) <a href=http://www.teleport.com/~trnsoniq/wodent.html>http://www.teleport.com/~trnsoniq/wodent.html</a>

No more Nuts! Your glider needs calcium and a good protein source - cickets, mealies, boiled egg with shell, microwaved chicken - no skin, fat or spices.....His fat problem was the nuts, and you need to cut them out completely for awhile or it will KILL him. Good luck and email me, if you wish.

PS I hope they get raw fresh fruit too. Gliders love the Wodent Wheels, and they are great exercise!
