Hi Again all! Question, i know that we are all still learning about sugargliders. they are somewhat still new to these parts of the world, but i have a question. i realize crickets and meal worms, etc. are needed. but my vet suggested, that if i fed her boiled chicken instead, that would be more than enough protien. he also suggested eggs. now i know everyone is more than likely going to say crickets, but will chicken be an even suppliment??? thanx

Variety is the spice of life, or so they say...but it really is true. I vary the gliders' diets a great deal. Nothing is fed day after day every day. Yes, gliders do have their preferences, but they will eat what they are fed - even if grudingly so....Mine are not fond of veggies except for corn and raw sweet potatoes..(Other peoples gliders like them cooked.) They'll always eat yogurt, and I have no problem giving them that almost daily - they get nonfat, fruit-juice sweetened yogurt (NO ASPARTAME). You need to learn to read ingredient labels carefully. Feel free to email me if you wish.

Crickets are higher in phosphorus than anything else. They do have protien but no very much. Chicken and maybe some smoked salmon would be a good addition to crickets for a high protien, relatively low fat treat. Make sure to cut the fat off first! -Sarah

be careful with smoked salmon..i gave some to my gliders on thanksgiving..and they ate some..but then decided to bring it in the pouch and SLEEP with it...so they reeked for weeks and were all greasy..it was bad!
