Um I have a question. I am thinking of buying a glider from somebody, but it is fed an odd diet. It is as follows: A few tablespoons of lean hamburger A few tablespoons of yogurt A few tablespoons of scrambled egg A cup of fruit and veggies And sometimes insects It has been fed to 5 gliders with absolutly no healthy problems. Personally, the hamburger sounds way to high in fat. The person says the glider is completely heathy. Should I still consider buying the glider from that person?

Hmm thats a tough one to say. If the glider you want looks healthy and is active, then its safe to consider buying it. But if you do buy a glider from this person, I would do a slight change of the diet. Or at least the lean beef part. There are better meats like chicken and turkey that are lower in fat and phosphorus. The main concern about beef is the extremely high amount of phosphorus. Instead of the beef you can give the glider more crickets and mealworms for protein. A little bit of egg is okay, but egg yolk can be fatty. Also I think it is better to give gliders boiled eggs rather then scrambled eggs. Yogurt is okay as long as it is not diet yogurt (aspartame is bad) and is plain and fat free. T Angie

I agree with gliderlover...I'd switch the burger to chicken or turkey too.

Yes...switching the diet isn't really an issue with me. I was just wondering if it is safe to consider buying it. Thanks!

and no vit d3, you didn't say how long they have owned the gliders or how old they are. but that isn't important. the question was should you get one.. we take in rescues all the time that were fed bad diets.. Gliders have very spefic dietary needs, and some can live for a few years, bad diets can sometimes be refered to as slow death warrants, where as it is not something that shows up right away, sometimes it can take a couple of years for the calcium deficts to show up in symptoms I would however suggest if you buy one to be sure to take it to the vet, have the vet run some x-rays, and do the regualr check up stuff like fecals and urinalysis.
