Hey I wanted to know somethin about my sugar glider.. I have had him since Dec 15, 2000, isnt that long, at first he will nip, and screech at me but now he dosen't do that anymore.. anyways to the point well at night he sometimes would start barking and I wake up to see whats wrong, and nothing is wrong but he is moving all around the cage and when I open it he glides ,from a pole in the cage, to me, so I figured oh he likes me or he is getting use to me.. But what I don't understand is why as soon as he jumps on me he crawls all aruond and than tries to find a way to run away from me? Why would he just jump on me to run away? Same thing when my girlfriend is holding him he gets away from her glides onto to me but still tries to run away? Why? I don't understand? If anybody has any opinion about this I'll be more than glad to hear it... Ray

Perhaps he just wants to play....my glider does that often, when it is play time? Does this happen at night or during the day?

Well he barks at night, but when I get home form work he gets all jumpy and I open the cage and he glides on me, but what I don't understand is why would he try to runaway if he wants to play, and if he wants to runaway why jump on me? Why not climb down from the cage.....

They don't liek the ground so what I figure is you are the "tree" that is close enoguth for him to jump onto to let him out and explore more. Don't be offened if he doesn't want to stay on you he probably is just explroing the new place.

It sounds like your glider is starting to trust you and bond. Even still. what you have to understand is that gliders are hyper little pets, and while they may like you, your room is way more exciting and they like exploring on their own. He hops on you to say hi and then runs off so you don't stop him from going where he wants to go, or maybe he still is wary of you and is just testing to see what you will do when he jumps on you. If you want him to spend time on you, take him out of the cage when he is sleeping and snuggle him then.

He just wants to give you a quick "hi" before he's off to play. But, if you want him to hang around on you longer, try turning the lights off before you let him out. He could be running off so quick so that he can find a darker place to play. Kerry (with Jack and Gus-Gus)

Your glider barks at night to locate you. He wants to know where you are or wants to play with you. If you are sleeping and he wakes you don't go play with him. He will try to wake you all the time. The reason your glider always goes away is to explore. After a while he will come back, but just keep an eye on him while he checks everything out. Don't try to keep him on you. He needs to explore. Do some research on glider proofing your house/apartment. There are also some sites that tell you what the noises they make mean. This will help you understand you glider better. Also, read the book Sugargliders by Caroline McPhearson. Have fun!
