Is this at ALL normal? He just started it also. He actually hisses when he is pooping. I mean, it's a nice warning/heads up, but is this alright?

Mine have done this before. I assumed it meant they were a little constipated and made sure their licky treats were fruit for a awhile afterward. If it is hard in consistency then this is probably why.

Mine does that also, however she has never had any problems, and everything seems to come out ok..

One of my boys used to do this when he was a baby. He was VERY young when I got him and I just kinda got the impression that, as he was used to having mom "help him out" (i.e. lick him to get him started), this was just his way of letting his mom know. He certainly wasn't constipated, so who knows? Any other thoughts on this?

My male does this also. He makes the same noise when he is agitated by my female, so go figure.

This happens when they are constipated. Make sure that they are getting enough roughage and moisture in their diet.

One of my young males started hissing when going a few months back. I had him checked out and it turned out to be a sort of bacteria infection. With medication he stopped and hasn't done it again. Might want to have him checked just for grins.
