it says in Caroline MacPherson book (which most of us know as the bible)heehe that gliders don't reach sexual maturity untill 8-14 months of age. So is that out dated information? cause I just saw a post under "best age to neuter" That said they can start breeding at 4 months?????????

I don't think that info is outdated...it is trye that most gliders do not reach sexual maturity until then...however there are several cases of gliders getting pregnant or impregnanting much earlier than that. So thats the general age, but they can mature faster than others. Just like humans generally reach maturity at a certain age...some can mature faster or slower.

I dont know about that info, but my female is pregnant now and got pregnant when she was only 5 mos. and her hubby was only 6 mos. If you have a male and female together and are worried, I would do it as soon as considered medically safe if you dont want any babies.

I agree with Mary/Beck. My firstborn glider Jessica Joy was OOP in Feb. and her first joey was OOP that Nov. That joey Jamie Joy did not have her first, my first firstborn twins for 2 years. (Her mate was very young!) wink wink raspberry

My guy was neutered at 8mnths and everything went really well. It has been about 6 weeks and haven't had any problems.

We got our male neutered when he and our female were only about 5-6 months old, and we found out that he had already impregnated our female! The joeys shouold come out any day now, and, although she is young and it is her first litter, she seems to be doing well and cleaning her pouch, etc. All I can say is that, as Mary/Beck said, they are like humans and reach sexual maturity at different ages; 8-14 months is just the average.
P.S.: I have that book too, and I sure was surprised when we found out ouur Winky was pregnant already! wink

I got mine nuetered when they were between five and six months old. Everything went really good. The vet injected them with a shot (I do not know what was in it but it made them really sleepy). Then she put little tiny gas masks on their faces. She closed the insision with acouple stitches and some kind of glue. The boys pretty much slept through the whole night. Then they were fine. They never bothered their stitches and they healed really well.
