Well you can use newspaper but first you must make sure that it is made with nontoxic ink...like a vegetable based ink...also newspaper must be changed daily. I personally would rather use carefresh because it works beteer..I use newspaper when I travel, but care frehs when at home...its much better for me. As far as nestboxes I neevr use them so I don't know what should go in them.

Don't use Cedar Chips or pine. Aspen or carefresh is fine

Cedar chips are getting a reputation for causing respiratory problems in small mammals. As others have said before me, aspen is a much better choice. You never know when your local paper switches its type of ink so it is always a slight gamble.

Don't use pine either. Just like cedar, it can cause respitory problems.

Okay All newspaper has harmful ink that if ate off of will cause problems. Cedar will cause respirtory problems. There is a product called Carefresh it is what we use at the vets office, plus I use it at home.

Just to tell you Carefresh is not a ceder of wood thing it is a virgin pulp that is bio-degradable. It is not a cat litter or clay it is for small animals.

OK here goes my 2 cents, first off all newspaper is not harmful...in fact most are using non toxic ink now just for the simple fact that babies put everything in their mouths. I use plain white paper towels on the bottom of my cages, this allows me to keep track of urine and fecal matter very easily, i know if there are any changes in the amount, color, size, and it is vey easy to see. this does need to be changed daily however. There is nontoxic ink that some papers use now...one of the inks is made with vegetables and is not toxic if eaten...byt you do have to check with your paper and see what they use.

generally newspaper is safe.i would skip all of the wodchips if i were you..although aspen my be the lesser of two evils..it can still be dusty and cause respitory probs..i work for an exotics vet who recomends newspaper or papertowels to almost every client..it is also safer for a glider to eat paper products than wood, as it is easier to digest and there is less chance that it will become impacted in their bellies.
