Okay my brother has had his sugar gliders for about 2 months, well he got the boy fist, and well he's almost full grown, then he got a girl and she's only about 4 months. He's had them seperated since he's had them, and he just put them together last week. I really haven't seen them out much, there always together now, and I'm afraid that they're mating. Is that bad since the girl is pretty much still a baby? Also my brother hasn't cleaned the cage for about 3 weeks, and it's really beginning to stink, and I'm sure anough am not going to clean it cause there not my pets, but is that real bad for them if the cage isn't clean? Please write back, Thanks!

of course its bad if the cage stinks. if the smell is bad to you, imagine how bad it is for the glider, their sense of smell is much greater than ours. how much is your brother playing with the gliders? what is he feeding them? if he isnt even cleaning out the cage, id be worried that he isnt taking care of them in any other areas of care also. how old is your brother? how much research did he do before he bought them? id frankly tell your brother that he might want to think about finding them another home, where they can get the care that they deserve. if you want to ask me anything, click on my name and email me. also, if he decides that he wants to find them a new home, i know some people that would take them in and spend lots of time with them, and will take great care of them. also, as long as she is at least three fourths his size, she should be able to defend herself, if she is smaller, i would be worried. and, have you to given any thought as to what are going to do with the babies WHEN the gliders have them? they WILL have babies sooner or later. and are you aware that if you try to sell the babies, you need a liscence? otherwise its illegal. do you know how to take care of the babies? what is he feeding the gliders? they need pretty specific food. otherwise they can get very serious illnesses and die. i would recommend caroline mac phersons book on sugar gliders. it is the bible of glider care. i would also seriously tell him that it might be in the best interest of the gliders if he were to find them new homes. afterall, if he doesnt take care of them now, do you really expect him to change?

I am afraid that I cannot figure out why your brother got the gliders in the first place. It sounds like he got the first one without really knowing what is involved and then got the second one to keep from having to spend the required time with either one. Unfortunately, you have picked a very sensitive place (this board) to post that your brother has two gliders that he won't take care of. I agree with Emily ... if he isn't going to take care of them then he should do everything possible to find them new homes. There is nothing we can do to MAKE him take care of them properly. The fact that you are posting rather than him tells alot about the situation. For the gliders' sake I hope that your brother will get his act together and either take care of them or find someone who will.

its me again. i was wondering if you could tell your brother to look through this website for info on gliders and how to take care of them. look through the gliderpedia. this has info on everything. i would still try to talk him into finding them a new home. if he decides that he wants to, remember me for them. also, if he keeps them, i would stress neutering the male. its a fairly cheap procedure, and them they wouldnt be able to have babies.

I have to disagree here.. she said he hadn't cleaned the cage in 3 weeks.. that isn't long for a gliders cage. remember he was just introduced to a female, so what do you think he is doing? he is marking her and her territory everything she touches he will mark, especially if he is doing the wild thing, if he knocks her up, then he will mark extremely heavy to prepare the joeys for the smell of dad and his turf, they also mark heavier to warn other gliders, that there are babies there and he will do what he can to protect them. My biggest fear here is her age and being too young yet. Cause he will rape her.
