Does any one have any suggestions for nail cutting. My glidder Molly really hates it & always bites. It never fails to be a bloody afair for me.

I've done it, but so far it hasn't really been necessary and my vet said don't unless it becomes necessary. Someone has suggested earlier the best way is to swaddle them in a towel while sleepy during the day and gently ease one paw out at a time. Use regular nail clippers or wire cutters from RadioShack. Drag the clippers across the nail until it catches; cut there - just the very tip. That way you won't get cuticle and it shouldn't bleed. When I did it I got three paws on one glider and only one on the other and I decided we had all had enough of this game. I'm sure it is like any other pet: if it is done regularly enough the animal gets used to it. Good luck!

I don't cut Taz' nails. I tried and figured it would be easier to file them. I file them while he's asleep. He doesn't seem to mind and he still has his claws to climb.

Some people have had great success placing a piece of VERY FINE sandpaper underneath the feeding dish. This way they will "file" their own nails without evening realizing it. I do not leave mine in there 24/7. I usually leave for a couple of days and then remove for several weeks before replacing. Just don't want to take any chances hurting their little pads. Just make absolutely sure that you use the finest grade sandpaper you can find and this should work.

I bought my glider a sandy perch...You can find them in any bird supply catalog. They sell every size. I get the large, the glider sits or jumps on it and the nails get trimmed...The perch is made out of scale type of material to shape the nails. I buy it from this catalog www.hornbecks.com go under perches. Hope this helps!

Thanks for all of the helpful suggestions. Molly's nails really seem to grow fast & since she thinks I am her personal tree she really scratches me a lot. So I have to cut them about every 2-3 wks. I've tried the perches but she just doesn't spend enough time on them so I use a magnifying lamp & baby finger nail clippers but she really hates it & bites me as often as she can. Anyway Karen I'll try the sand paper under her food dish that just might work.
