Tonight Snitch died. We found him cold in the nest box without any wounds. He hadn't fallen out. We warmed him and put him back with his parents but 2 hours later he was dead. He died in a seizure-like pose: arms flexed, head down, and legs outstretched and almost crossed (as if spastic). We noticed that his sister looked bigger and has opened her eyes, whereas his never did open. They were OOP same day and were the same size then. He was 5 days OOP. We are just hoping and praying Pigwidgeon makes it. The parents are quite young, only 8-9 months OOP now. They don't seem stressed at all. Part of the reason it took us two hours to recheck him was that we were out looking for Esbilac. But actually I think he was already dying anyway and doubt we could have saved him. So, tonight, we are mourning our little Snitch...

Loss of little ones is very difficult. I think it is because their life has just begun and then all of a sudden has ended and also much is left unexplained as to why. Nature at times can appear to be cruel but then again I think she really does know what is best. I am so sorry for your loss and the emptyness you feel. My prayers are with you and your glider family.

My heart goes out to you. It is always hard to lose and animal, no matter how young....I have lost my share, so i know how you feel. Sometimes the loss occurs no matter what we do, but that doesn't make it any easier, I know. I pray your other little joey will be OK. Keep us posted.

Oh Debbie, that is sooooo sad. I will pray for Pigwidgeon and hope all goes well with her. My Nuba will be having little ones soon and that is my biggest fear although she's had them before so I hope things go well for her. But having lost my Arrow, I truly understand and cry everytime I hear of someone else's dying. Take care and you and your family will be in my prayers!

I think Pigwidgeon is okay this morning. I think your prayers helped. Thank you! Since Nuba has already been a Mommy I'm sure all will go well with your new batch, Tessa. There has been a head cold going around our family, but we are careful to wash our hands well. There have been no signs of illness in our adult gliders. You are right, Judie, there was something mysteriously wrong, and I'm sure it was for the best. Since Dobby is now neutered, we probably put too much hope on these little one's survival even though we didn't plan on having any babies at all! So anything we get we must look on as a gift, but no more than that. I take comfort in the adults' eager little tongues and the one remaining fuzzy head curled in Winky's lap
