Hallo all.... I am in the process of getting my USDA license to breed sugar gliders. In doing so I have been making up Information Packets for prospective buyers, Questionnaires for interviewing buyers, creating pouches, a web sight, stocking up on food items to give out with each glider, etc.. But what I am wondering, because everyone has their own point of view, what would you consider being the "Perfect Sugar Glider Breeder?" What would you expect to see, hear, view of your Breeder. I know that nothing is perfect, but I would like to be pretty darn close. I love my breeder(s) that I have purchased my gliders from, but I know that I will be adding to what they gave me as far as information goes. My little fuzzy are taken well care of. I have done everything in my power to provide them with a loving home, proper diet, plenty of play time, toys, climbing trees and gyms, great vet care if needed, the list goes on and on. I am thoroughly addicted to these loving ;), and I would like to pass that feeling onto future glider owners. So what do you think.... does the "Perfect Breeder" exist?? As a breeder I do something I have not ever heard of, I offer two warranties. One is a health warranty, if the glider dies in the first year- refriderate the body and return it to me. If a necropsy determines it is a congenital defect it is a refund or a new glider. If it is any other reason there is not are refund. I also offer a personality refund. If the glider is returned in the first three months you get 100% back, the second three months 75% etc until one year. This to encourage customers to return gliders for personality problems soonest so I can find them a new home. As I said I have never heard of warranties like this. Elwin

Tina, First, you determine if you really wish to become a breeder; i.e. can you hand raise joeys, afford vet costs, give them the attention that they so need, house them, be able to keep unsold gliders, the list goes on and on... Second, when you are thoroughly addicted and in love with gliders, know their ins and outs, you would then apply for a USDA license. 1. A good breeder needs to make sure the prospective owner has done reaserch on their own. It is great for you to make them a caresheey...but things are always changing and they need to be willing to do their own reaserch. 2.A good breeder will not seel the babies before they are fully weaned from their moms..normally 8 weeks oop. 3. A good breeder will make sure the new owner will feed a good diet. 4. A good breeder will deffinitly take back any unwanted glider. So many gliders get moved from home to home because they are unwanted. 5. A good breeder will allow the new owner to come over and spend time with the glider before they are ready to go home...they will also let them put a shirt in the cage..or bring their own cage. This is the glider will already know the smells of the new owner. 6. A good breeder will try and help the new owner to find a good vet...and ensyre that the glider goes in for normal checkups. Thats all I could think of...but there are probably many more things. Good luck to you...sounds like you are starting off good.
