Question. Anyone take their glider to work? How do they behave? Is it risky? Would anyone know? I ask this because I know with a bonding pouch it would help us bond with him being near me a lot. Ideas?

I've taken mine to work. Make sure your gliders are pouch trained, by wearing your pouch at home in early evenings and all weekend days. They get used to you talking while they sleep, motion, etc. Also, be sure your work environment won't cause them stress (loud noises, etc.). Also, just a warning -- make sure you're very very body conscious. You have habits at your work you don't even think about that could hurt your gliders -- for example, I tend to scootch really close to my desk when I'm working on my laptop. My desktop was at the same height as the pouch. If I hadn't noticed this habit, I could have squished my babies when I scooted. So, while you're pouch training, start being very aware of this kind of thing (how you carry things, your office setup, etc), so you're prepared when you take them to work. Also, it's better not to let anyone know you have them on you right away, because you need to allow them time to get used to the new sounds and be comfortable sleeping through them, rather than starting off with strange faces and fingers bugging them when someone wants to see. Good luck!

i take mine to work with me all the time. mostly they just sleep. i hang them on the wall out of the draft next to my purse. just be ready for them to crab if u happen to do something they don't like at first.it may cause a disturbance with u're co-workers. and i would never take one out of the house if u wern't ABSOLUTELY sure it would jump off u and go running. they are FAST.

I take my little girl to work about 2-3 days per week. Everyone has been enthralled because no one has ever seen or heard of a sugarglider. She will stay asleep in her pouch the entire time and is normally very quiet. But please follow Dawn's advice and watch for things that could potentially be dangerous and be sure you're glider will not "sneak" out of the pouch. I usually offer a small piece of dried fruit mid-day as a snack. She eats it gratefully and then snuggles back up for the rest of her long nap. It's really a great way to spend extra bonding time if you can!

My glider goes eevrywhere with me...work, school...you name it. It is importiant to train them first though. You need to pouch train them for at least 2 weeks before you take them out with you anywhere.

I take my gliders everywhere with me. Work, school, the zoo, the grocery store, everwhere. Only certain gliders have this privelege though. A couple of my gliders get a lottle out of control some times.

Maddie goes to work with me every day. I have to agree with Dawn about being body cautious. While at work one tends to get wrapped up in something and may forget that they have a baby attached to them somewhere. Maddie stays in a small purse that zipps up so she can not crawl out. The purse hangs about waist level and one time I got up out of my chair and hit the desk and Maddie made a little screech. After that I was always extra careful with her. She does not make a sound all day and is quite content to just hang out with me. I do alot of moving around and she has managed to get use to that. It is amazing how she can sleep through everything. Now that I am back at school, Maddie is a student too. I had a sugar glider before that I could not take to work. He would crab every time that I moved or he heard my voice. That made it very hard to talk on the phone because as I am sure you know, they crab very loudly! That glider never did bond with me completely and was not an appropriate candidate to take to work. My suggestion is to have your glider with you all day on a Saturday and Sunday and if he is ok with all of the movement and such, then he is probably ready for work. What kind of job do you have. I think some jobs may be hazardous for gliders. If your job requires a lot of lifting things (that may accidently squash your glider)then obviosly it wouldn't be a good idea. Ok, I have babbled enough. Peesh ;)

I am a drafter in a small firm. I just basically sit at my desk and draw on the computer all day. I get up to go to the bathroom or drop off a drawing to someone. It's a quiet enviroment.

I think its a good idea to bring your glider to work with you!! Yes you do have to be very careful with them so they dont get squooshed. I take my glider joel to school with me and we are not yet bonded as well as i would hope we would be. He is fairly calm, he sleeps in my purse with a towel and seems to enjoy it in there because he doesnt ever want to go back into his cage at the end of the day i have noticed him over this past month to be getting used to the evironment as his brother alecks has already. there is some risk in taking joel to school but he hasnt caused to many problems!!! Love stacy, ashlee, alecks, joel, ben, and jules

Some gliders will stay in a pocket and some wont. They do not like bright lights...so what will protect him? Is there a cover over the pocket like a jacket or another shirt? Or is it a really deep pocket? I personally have tried putting my glider ina a pocket and he keept getting out. You can try it it works for some..but with others you must use a pouch. Also be aware that not everyone will be happy to know you have your glider with you...in your pocket they may seem him and ask you to leave some places.
