Hello all,
I have to apologize for taking direct offense to Karen E's message....I AM new at the glider thing......BUT.....I have done total and extensive research on them, and when I ask stupid questions on here, it is not because I AM stupid, but I like to get alot of different kind of responses, then when put up to the written facts, I make my own decision....Based on fact, and expierience.......NOW, about Oxy-clean....It is NOT a chemical, and I do NOT distribute nor sell this for profit, nor will I ever, I would not have the time if I wanted to.....Oxy-clean is ODORLESS......the ingredients are sodium percarbonite, sodium carbonate, and odor fighting enzymes.....I am sorry, there are three ingredients....I took this right off the side of the container....Now what I do is this....I make the solution and use half the dose....When my gliders are sleeping I spray the bottom half of the cage and surrounding area with a fine mist......I let it sit for about five minutes then with a clean , damp cloth, I wipe down the bars on the sides and bottom.......This I do daily, as my gliders are also messy eaters so they spray food all over....food that deteriates gets very stinky not to mention unhealthy for both gliders and humans.....They do have an orange cleaner, and yes we have it....BUT we do NOT use it on our gliders, nor their cage, nor their toys or anything else.....Although it is made from oranges, It is VERY strong, it will take the skin from your hands.....I do clean their wodent wheels with a weak solution of this once every two weeks or so.....My male glider is or close to sexual maturity...He does mark a little, but his urine is actually weaker than the females....I sit them on top of the cage before I handle them, and they seem to know that it is bathroom time, and they go.....Yes, we still get a little wet sometimes, but not too bad.....I TOTALLY understand that they need there smells, I have five dogs and four of them are male......But does that mean you have to have a stinky cage, or a stinky house so they can have it....I don't believe so.....I do not totally clean the cage daily, nor weekly, I also do a little here and a little there.......and for Karen, a list of my animals....By the way I use Oxy clean with my birds, and they are more sensitive than all animals, and I have greyhounds, and they cannot take strong chemicals either......
I have three male greyhounds, Skip Francis, Nicholas Xavier, and Lord Greyville
I have a Chihuahua, (actually my wifes) Jasper St. Emerick.....
I have a mutt Nikita Noel
****ALL were rescued
We Have three cats, Co Co Ann, Sabrina Evita, and Antonio St. Benidict....All were also rescued...
We have three hamsters, all teddy bear, Ruby 2, Cloe, and Pooka......
We have two Love birds, Thunder and Storm
We have two parakeets, Fred and Daphne
I also have an indoor pond, with fish
Salt water aquarium
Fresh water aquarium
and two outside ponds....
ANd last buy not least our gliders.......Our first was "Gibby" Gibson St. Janarius and our girls Precious and Molly....They came with their names......So as you can see I do not have time for selling or pushing Oxy-clean, just that I use ALOT, and it works and it is safe....If you find that it is not safe let me know and I will stop using it....Buy by all the signs it is not harmful.....WHEN used correctly.....Baby aspirin is harful if you take too much RIGHT!!! Hey all, I don't want a war, really just thought I was helping and I guess maybe some people don't think I can.......I am not taking this to heart honest, and typing this took away attention to one of my critters....But I wanted to clear the air...Sorry for ticking anyone off, but keep in mind, I am a male and I was marking my area.....LOL>>>>LOL>LOL

A little off the subject- WOW you have an indoor pond!! (sorry that is just cool to me smile ) do your gliders ever get in it? I know that water can be dangerous if they cant get out. but I have also read that they are great swimmers. and have seen this first hand I'll post the story under Splash.

If any one finds that this oxy-clean is Un safe I would also like to know as oder is a bad problem for me too.
I have found that a bedding I put in the tray called All Pet pine.( NO it is not pine shavings there was a post about it on the old board.) Has helped alot with the smell.

Hello all again.....I had a few more pointers for odor....And although it is part of life with gliders, there are some other safe ways...I run and air cleaner in the room where the gliders reside.....They are in my kids room.....Also I bought this bag of some kind of stone, they are white and are supposed to be from volcanos, they are in a plastic mesh bag and are supposed to absorb odors for 5 years.....I think that this is working great.......Hey,,,,,I know stupid question, but my girls like to go to Gibby's cage and they go in and crawl in his bed.....So every so ofter I let them switch cages...Is this all right....???? Thanks Jim

I dont think its a bad idea at all. It seems they like each other. Mine did this before living together. It actually helps them bond but they also might start liking each other a little more, maybe in a different way.. hehe is your male neutered?? hehe ok just curious =)
I wish I had an indoor pond!!!!!!!!!!!

Jim,
Just a bit of advice. You may want to say Oxy-clean is non-toxic or potentially toxic, instead. IT IS A CHEMICAL. Just wondering, have you had chemistry? The first two ingredients are chemicals, as well as the enzymes, which are proteins, and are chemicals. So the bottom line is, you have to try and define what chemical means to you and everyone else. And I tend to think in this situation that it has to do with whether it is harmful or not, which is completely wrong. Thanks for the advice on the Oxy-clean and good luck with your beasties!!
