Ok my question for all, is.. HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF ANY PEOPLE BEING ALLERGIC TO OR HAVING ANY TROUBLE WITH ASTHMA.. WITH SUGAR GLIDERS? i jsut got out of the hospital today.. had a major attack and had to be hospitalized, my mom says it is the gliders, even though i was already sick a week before i even got my gliders. So im hoping to hear that no one has heard of any people being allergic to the sugars so i feel more at ease. raspberry raspberry raspberry frown frown frown

I wish I could tell you what you want to hear, but as with any animal allergies are possible. In fact, there is a lady in Memphis, TN who had to sell her precious glider because the allergy was so severe.
I have asthma but fortunately have been able to keep it under control with oral medication and inhaler. Some days are better than others though.
Good luck.

I had a gentleman call me (and return) after only having their glider home for less than 24 hours. His wife ended up in the hospital with a severe bronchial reaction within hours of introducing him to their home. Mom wasnt even in the room for more than a peek at the new addition - since he was sleeping and they didnt want to disturb him. She only had mild asthma that had gone years without irritating her. Until that day...

Well my husband and I have asthma and I guess we are fortunate as our gliders haven't triggered any attacks and we don't have any allergic reactions to them.

I have fairly severe asthma, but the sugar gliders don't cause me any problems. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones smile

Oh good, thank you maria for giving me a bit of hope ! I think my recent hospitalization was a result of me already being sick for a few weeks before we got out gliders ! And had nothing to do with my babys. I love them and pray that i am going to be alright ! I have played with them and have them crawl on me and never have i even gotten a stuffy nose.. a problem breathing, or any thing, so i am sure it is not them that caused me to be sick recently. My husband and mother are just very concerned about me always, and they think im allergic to EVERY THING.

LOL, my dad is the same way. I finally had to get my asthma specialist to talk to him and let him know that my gliders weren't causing me a problem. It's nice to be loved when they aren't too annoying raspberry

I asked my doctor and he asked me what a sugar glider is ! HAHA, he did say that there should not be a problem with them, i am allergic to cats because of the dander. sugar's dont have that dander, and being allergic to their scent would kind of like being allergic to urine or something like that. So i think it is fine.

What is interesting is that gliders clean themselves so well, like cats, that they do not leave dander. Dander is created by the solidification of proteins that are found in saliva and some animals have it worse than others (like some cats). The allergy that some of these people have spoken of could be from the feces or urine of the glider as well as well. Alot of research has shown an increase of asthma and/or allergies due to the inhalation of feces of dust mites. I do not want to go off on a tangent, but allergies as well as asthma are tricky as far as figuring out what is setting them off. My wife thought she was allergic to one of our cats when, in fact, I figured out it was the "goose feathers" in a comforter that was causing it. I would hate to see people jump off the handle and give up their gliders without piecing it together first. Hope this helps!

My gliders have proven to not be a problem for me and my asthma. As a matter of fact i am so proud to say that i have not been hospitalized yet this month, and seem to be doing great ! I play with my glider every night, as well as carry him around on my person all day every day in his bonding pouch ! THANK GOD! Because i love my glider with all of my heart, it would kill me to have to give him up. So, i know i dont have a problem with him, and nothing can take him away from me ! hehehe
