Sorry if this is a silly question (not to mention gross), but are the dead mealies OK or not? For some reason, they are slowing dying off in the fridge and I just bought them Sunday. She hasn't gotten these, but I want to amke sure before I find a way to dispose of them. UGH!!!!!

If you're talking about the brown ones, I don't feed these and it doesn't make any sense that they would be good for the gliders. I just grind those up in the disposal. I have a hard time finding the large ones at Petsmart, so when they do get them I buy several cartons and have had no problem keeping them in the frig. If, however, you are buying the giant ones from a pet store that are not kept refrigerated, then putting these in the frig will kill them. I found this out the hard way ... not to mention somewhat expensive way.

What size mealies did you buy?? The normal size should not die in the fridge they go to sleep. However the giant mealies die in the fridge..I have no idea why but I read that on glider central.

I buy mine at petsmart (the giant ones)and I always open the cans and check for died ones and the one with the least I buy! because it may say there are 100 in there but you don't know how many of those 100 are already died unless you check! and I don't feed the died ones either. my gliders don't like them. they like them to wiggle as they go down but I wonder if they eat died ones in the wild? not sure but it would make sense. we eat died animals. infact I don't believe I have ever eatten a live animal (exept that bug that flew down my throught when I was riding my bike years ago )

I bought a small pack of 25 giant mealworms just to see if she'd eat them since she's so picky about everything else, and I would guess that about 10 or so are already dead since Sunday afternoon. I was told at the pet store to keep them in the fridge or they would turn into beetles. UGH...I'm not a "bug" person, so I just took her advice.

Mealworms should deffinitly be keept in the fridge..they do turn into beeteles and those bettles lay egs and they grow to be mealworms...I know I raise mealworms. In the fridge they should not die...in most cases you probably bought them they were dead.
