My gliders prefer lower light levels -- I find that when the lights are too bright, they find dark places to hide and dont "play" too much

My glider will not play in anylight at all except the tv light...I recently bought some red lights and he will play in them. So if you don't use redlights don't expect your glider to come out if anylights are on. However you sure never let your glider out to play until they trust you. They are small creatures and can easily get away from you...so if you aren't bonded how will you get the glider back in the cage??

My gliders have always been in the light since they were babies, so mine are used to playing with the lights on. I think it all depends on what the glider is used to.

Keep in mind however that a gliders eyes are very large and a lot of light can be harmful to them. A gliders eyes are disigned to suit the nocturnal character they have.

Even if the gliders don't mind playing in the lights over time bright lights can permentatly damage their eyes. So even if they don't mind it its not a good idea to play with them with the lights too bright.

Jason,
They are nocturnal creatures, AS Kitara pointed out. Do what is best for them and not you
OR possibly a happy medium.

Of course I did not mean to put them in bright spot lites or anything like that. Mine play in normal light, a table lamp with a 60 watt bulb in it. This will not harm their eyes in anyway.

Ok red lights do not bother nocturnal animals. When people photogaph animals at night they use red lights so that they don't disturb them. I am not sure what the deal is but there is something with noctunal animals and red lights not bothering them. I have never heard of people using blue or green lights...I have no idea as to how the gliders would react.

Now as for the black lights. Some people do use those.I have read that some Black Lights give off UV rays, and the rays can damage the eyes of a nocturnal animal. So I don't honestly know about the black lights. I have seen some people say that its fine for an hr a day but anymore would be harmful, others say its harmful period.

So if you are using a black light I would not use it more than one hr a night. I have only heard good things about the red lights so you could probably use them as long as you wnated to I do not honestly understand why a black light gives off UV rays and a red light doesn't...I have been looking into this but haven't really gotten a good answer yet.

Ok I found this out...regualr black lights like party lights are fine...the black lights that are made for reptiles is not okay durring playtime. The reptile lights give off the UV rays hich are daus for the glider eyes. The UV rays are okay when the glider is asleep in the pouch...but you should never gliders sensitive eyes be exposed to direct UV rays that come from the Sun or a reptile light.
