Hello everyone again, I'm getting both my boys, Neo and Morpheus, neutered on Nov. 16. They said they will have to give them anesthesia to do the procedure. Can anyone, someone, plese let me know how everything turned out with their glider being neutered? I'm really worried that my boys possibly not be the same after receiving the anesthesia. Thanks so much for your help :o) Tiffani

I have had both of my males neutered and they are fine. I wouldn't worry I don't think it changed their personalities at all. And I think a plus of neutering is they don't scent as much. Just make sure your vet is experienced and I wuldn't worry about it then. Good luck!

I had both of my boys done too. They didn't even seem to notice. They do smell a lot better to. Personalities stayed the same. Brett is still the sweetest boy and LeRoy is still meaner that heck! I got Brett neutered when he was about 10 months old and LeRoy was about a Year and a half. Good Luck!

I'm a new glider mommy. Rocky is 4 weeks old... how old does he need to be before getting neutered, and how old is too old?

Tiffini/Jen- I got my oldest boy, Murry, "snipped" 4 years ago (he only 11 months), but the little stinker was precoscious and managed to "get lucky" a few days short of his operation. His son, Loki, got neutered at a younger age (learned my lesson with Murry ). He was only 8 months old. My vet recommended waiting until a glider is between 6-8 months old before neutering him. Both boys recovered very well and came home the day after their operation. They were a little groggy and sensitive around the belly for a day or two. I noticed a few behavioral and physical changes (all positive). Murry was terrible about marking before he got neutered and he had rancid urine. Afterwards, he still marked a lot less, and his urine no longer stinks. Because he was older, I think some of his old habits will never completely go away (like he still tries to mate with Zelda, occasionally marks, and headrubs). If the glider is already mature the hormones stick around for a while after the operation, it takes about a months before they are sterile. Because Loki was much younger than his dad and never was given a chance to develop naughty habits, he doesn't mark at all nor has he ever had an odor. Physical differences - my vet removed my boys' testicular material but left their scrotums, so their parts "appear" in tact unless you compare them side-by-side to an unaltered animal. They both totally lost their bald spots, though. I can't blame you for being anxious, but you should have little to fear. Your boys should quick recover, and the anesthetia that vets use to put these little guys under is a very mild gas. In fact, the gas is so mild the moment they remove the gas from the glider's nose, he wakes up. Anyhow, good luck with your boys' operation. We hope they have a quick recovery. -jAZ Murry, Zelda & Loki
