I just wanted to say that when I first got my baby Sugar Glider from a pet store, he has terrible Diarrhea...he was ver sick. I took him to the vet the very next day and several times after that during the next few weeks. I had to inject him with antibiotics. the diarrhea got slighly better but not much. It was not until a different vet saw my Sugar Glider (Francis) and told me how their diet is incredibly important- that most owners don't give them the right nutrition. He gave me a bunch of papers and recomended a paticular diet- It consists of hals a hard boiled egg yolk, a TBS of Good soft catfood like Zupreem, a TSP of chopped apple, a TSP of chopped carrots, a TSP of sweet potatoe (I use baby ffod for that, a TSP of banana, A TSP of chopped green leaf lettuce, then add 3 or 4 store bought crickets or 6 small mealworms. Mix all of that together, I also add calcium powder. This will feed one Sugar Glider. It sounds like alot of work, but my baby immediatly recovered from the severe diarrhea and I feed both my adult and baby this diet and they are both very happy!!!

Thats very true mpost owners don't. You may want to tell your vet that catfood isn't good for gliders. It has been known to cause constipation, intestinal blockage, and renal faliure in gliders. This page discusses their dietary needs: <a href=http://www.angelfire.com/nb/sugarglider/diet/index.html>http://www.angelfire.com/nb/sugarglider/diet/index.html</a> This is that diet that most of us here uses: <a href=http://www.angelfire.com/nb/sugarglider/leadbeat.html>http://www.angelfire.com/nb/sugarglider/leadbeat.html</a>

Thats right...catfood is for cats not for gliders. Gliders can not properly digest the catfood.

Cat food is a very controversial topic. Many Many say that cat food is VERY bad for them. My theroy is, if it is controversial... dont do it. Why put your gliders in risk? why take that chance? There are many other things you could be feeding your glider.

WOW! Why did the vet tell me to do this diet then? This diet is used by a zoo in Chicago to feed Sugar Gliders. It 'seems' to hav e been good for them, but I guess not! Thank you for the info

Vets deal with all kinds of animals. Unless they are really reaserching gliders then they probably have older information. The information on gliders is constanly changing. Most vets do not have the time to look up newer information. Also a lot of vets don't believe it if it isn't written in one of their vet books.
