I am the owner on a 6 month old female glider named Tucker. I noticed something wierd tonight when I was feeding her a treat and I want to get some opinions. I know you are supposed to give gliders sticks and tree branches and such to chew on because their teeth grow. Is this supposed to be their upper or lower or both sets of teeth? I noticed tonight that Tuckers two lower teeth in the front are really long. I want to make sure that this is normal. She has plenty of things in her cage to chew on, and I have noticed that she does chew on them occasionally. She didn't seem to have any problems eating and she can close her mouth normally. Im just concerned, how long is too long?

Yep, normal. You won't see them all the time, because their lower teeth go into a sheath when not "in use", so to speak. The top teeth kind of look like two little triangles, and the back teeth are like little nubs. Some gliders are a little "buck-toothed" and their top teeth show most of the time (our Petey is like that). Their teeth are not like rodents, which grow really fast. As long as you've got safe chew stuff in the cage and are feeding an appropriate diet, your glider's teeth should be healthy.

That's a big relief, thanks! She really startled me tonight when I saw them. I thought, woah, my little baby is some kind of monster and I didn't even know it! (whew, big relief!)

Gliders teeth do not continually grow like that of rodents. However there have been gliders that have their gums loosen and their teeth start to fall...this makes it look like their teeth are growing. In very few cases this can be genetic related but it is normally diet related. What diet are you feeding your glider?
