Hi,
As most of you know I have a 6-8wks oop baby girl (possibly Kayla)that is not eating. Any tips any of you may have for my scared little baby. I have a vet appt. on Sat. I need to get her to eat something. She has only eaten a little piece of apple of the past 3 days. HELP!

Hello, Linda! I have posted for you already. Is she in her pouch? Get the pouch and and hold it against your chest. This usually makes my Winky feel safe. Next, now I know she'll crab but it's totally harmless, get some baby food on your finger and offer it to her. You didn't put your e-mail address here, so please post it so I could help you. I'd like to call you while I'm at work. I'm in Miami, but it doesn't matter/ I'll call you wherever you are. For now, put a little bit of apple juice in a little dish inside her cage, at night! It's not ideal, but she NEEDS something in her tummy. Or, offer her some applesauce, baby food-- anything she'll eat until you're able to take her to the vet. Also Linda, it'd be good if you could get a needleless siringe and suck some filtered water into it and try to feed it to her. This is easy, while she's still sleepy in her pouch, hold her w/ one hand (back on your palm). W/ your index finger and thumb hold her neck. Careful not to squeeze tight! Just place the siringe by her mouth w/ the other hand and squeeze a little h2o and she'll lick it. She needs to be hydrated. Linda, e-mail me, ok...

If you think that your baby is also dehydrated you can give her some Pedialyte (I use unflavored mixed with a little apple juice). Your glider should be old enough to eat on her own so hopefully the vet will be able to tell you what is wrong. Have you tried giving her sweet babyfoods? Most young gliders will accept sweet fruit babyfoods like tutti fruity, and leadbeaters. If you are having trouble getting the baby to accept leadbeaters, add some fruit babyfood to it. What have you tried giving the baby? Are you sure that she is old enough to be weaned?

I fed my babies puppy milk replacement mixed with Gerber's baby cereal (warmed). Eventually I was able to change over to Leadbeater's, but it took alittle while. My babies were 4 weeks oop at the time, they are now almost two years old.  Good Luck!

Linda, did you try a couple of different kinds of fruits. Keep the baby in a pouch on your person - under your shirt. Try some apricot nectar, apple juice - something without a lot of additives and mix some yogurt in it. Dip your finger in it and try to get her to taste it. Will she eat mealworms? (I know of no sugarglider who does love them, but sometimes with a baby I have to break it open and put the insides practically in its mouth - until it gets a taste. Try all previously mentioned options because different gliders respond to different things....Dumb question, but is your glider's tail nice and fluffy?? Good luck and keep us posted.

If your little one has not eaten anything for three days you need to take her to a vet ASAP and not wait for Saturday for she may be dead by then.
Did you by chance call the breeder to whom you got her from? They may be able to help you. Personally, I would take her to the vet and have him check her out.

I have just gotten through hand feeding the joeys. The pictures showing how to do this are on my site under "First Time Moms" I used BML mixed with Puppy Replacer Milk. Go to the site and look at everything there. If you live close to a petsmart you can find all you need there. It sounds like maybe the baby might be younger than you were told.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. She has eaten but NOT ALOT. She will only eat apple and grapes. I tried the BML but she will NOT touch it. I tried the honey thing. Didnt work. I watered it down with applejuice to feed it to her in the syringe. I had her out of pouch last night, first time, and she didnt bite me or crab at me. After about and hour of fighting (gently)she got one squirt of it. She is very clever! She was smaking the syringe away with her hands! lol. I didnt want to hurt her. I squirted the BML into the grape and she ate some of it that way. I dont know what to do, I even tried putting it in her water bottle. Anyone know of anything else I can try to do to get her to eat the leabeaters?

Her tail is starting to get fluffy. She probably is younger than I was told. I made a mistake on where I got her. But now I love her and its up to me to make a wrong right!

Kiki was younger than I was told, too, but she is about 5 mos OOP now and doing well. All I can say is to keep up with the licky treats on yur finger, the syringe feeding, and praying. Have you tried the mealworms yet? She wouldn't eat hers the first time, but I cut it in half so she could taste the guts and now it is her fave food! Another thing she really likes is dried pineapple and papaya. I wouldn't recommend this often because it is dry and she would need to be rehydrated, but it's another fave as a treat because of the small amount of sugar on it.
