i've had my glider for about 4 days. and it is really vicious. i offer it food from my hand and it sneaks around to bite me. if i stick my finger through the bars it'll bite me! if i put my hand in the cage it jumps on my hand and bites me!!! i tryed leaving alone for a few days but its still blood thirsty. i put one of my socks in for him to get my scent and he loves it but he still hate me!!! what can i do to make this thing stop biting me, ansd start liking me???!!!
oh and another. he looks fat. he's alot wider than all of my friends glider's, is this a problem?

Well you have only had this glider for 4 days. The firt three days you should have given it some time to get used to its new home. Since you approched it while it was still really scarred and adjusting it sees you as a threat.

Uoi say he looks fat..waht diet was he on when you got him..and what diet are you feeding him? What kind of excericise does he get?

I forgot to say that socks are dangerous for gliders. Take the sock away from him. Gliders have gotton caught in the loose threads before and severly injured themselves. You need to use a pouch not a sock.

Willie, Mary Beck is right about taking away the sock. Any fabric that has threads that can be pulled can strangulate and kill or severely maim your animal. Get your glider a pouch. (I go to Target, luggage department, and get the security pouches (meant for carrying your money securely when you travel). There are several kinds: The best is one with a cord to wear the pouch around your neck. (The other has a loop that can be put on a cord, neck chain, or belt loop.) Put the glider in the pouch - if he lunges forward toward you, use a towel to pick him up. If not, slowly move your hand toward him with the palm of your hand toward his head. Then "ball" him up by curling your fingers over him. He should not be able to bite if you pick him up this way. When he is in the pouch, always offer him treats. By keeping the pouch on you during the day when he's sleeping, he'll get used to your scent. Do you know how old your glider is? If he's older and hasn't been handled, he may not bond. (There are people that disagree, but you"ll have to decide for yourself.) Also, when you offer him treats in cage, don't put them in the dish...Make him come to you and take it out of your hand.....All of my animals must come to me to get treats - this also ensures that they are evenly distributed because gliders can be greedy when it comes to treats. Do you know anything about your gliders previous homelife? Was he bonded to anyone?
Barb gave you some good information. Even if your glider is an older one and has never been bonded to anyone he will come around. It may not be a bond like you would get from a very young glider he still is tameable. Just may take a while longer for the trust to develope.
By the way, do not stick your fingers in through the cage wire nor place your hand to where he can get a hold of it on top of the cage area. When doing this you are teaching him to bite. The same thing applies to the treats through the wires. You must open the door and offer them to him. If you are fearfull of him he will pick up on it. Once he has you bluffed......it is over and you both will lose.

just keep trying..my gliders have been hard to bond...its been about 10 months and they are just comming around. now they will come to me and play. just be patient and keep trying.! (and get a large box o band aids.
