This is a forum for discussion. Placements of messages wanting sugar gliders or selling sugar gliders will be deleted.  How do I go about training my sugarglider? She bites me when I handle her and she bites me when I don,t handle her.

Mine were also bitters when I got them because they were in a new environment and scared. I would offer some leadbetters on my finger so they would have to lick it off and not bite my finger. I also wore a T-shirt for a day and also to bed and I put it in the cage with my pair. It helped them to get to know my scent. Some soaps cause them to bite. I washed my hands with a watermelon smelling soap once and they would not stop attacking my hands. It took about a week for them to stop biting. Just keep in mind that it takes alot of time and patience.

Grizz, what I suggest is getting a pouch and taking the gliders with you in the pouch during the day. This will get them used to your scent. I keep the pouch under my shirt or in a shirt pocket. Also, offer your glider a treat when you first put it in the pouch - this associates you with goodies....I also make my gliders take the treats from my fingers. Good luck.

I just bought my glider 3 days ago and have done exactly what Barb and Tina did. It works, she is not biting anymore and she doesn't crab when I walk around with her in her pouch. It takes awhile, just be patient. She still won't let me hold her. Good luck.
