I'd like to know who runs sugar glider rescues and which state you're in. I think it might be a good idea to try and coincide efforts with the sugar glider rail road.

Many people accept rescues, the best thing you can do is conicde and let people know that the rescue home is needed, many times people who normally may not take them is closer and would be willing. Figure most owners of over 2 years, many over 1 year.. will take in rescues

It may sound silly, but I would love to help with rescues. Nothing (except SM) could be worse than what I went through so I'm reay for anything now! It would be nice to help another one.
Just a thought.

Sorry to go off-topic a little, but my dream is to see the SPCA or Humane Society open a true "Exotic/Small Animal" section in each of their facilities so people are no longer inclined to dump their pets at pet stores. A lot of these places do not have the education or the equipment to care for animals, nor do they really market to people that they would rescue them. I really want to change that. The little guys suffer just as bad as (if not worse than) dogs and cats. Many official "pet rescues" don't even consider Exotic animals as pets. frown

Well,
I've not dealt with gliders for 2 or more years, but if help is ever needed towards the Texas way, I would be proud to be a part of it, as a rail road or a rescue, either way. I can travel a ways, but not more thn 48 hours out at a time, because of my own zoo here at home. If I'm ever needed, feel free to let me know at chanyn39@hotmail.com. smile

I don't take in gliders to my house, as I have enough now but I do make glider rescues and placement. People basically call me needing new homes for their gliders and I find them. I'm in north Texas.

I think it would be a nice idea to do two things to stop the need of rescues. First, go to pet stores (and possibly breeders because their are bad ones too) and ask if in their store they would post something like this in their store (I know it may not work because the pet stores may take them down but it's worth a shot).

To Whom it May Concern:

Sugar Gliders are great animals but require lots of care. Do you know how long they live? 12 to 15 years. Do you know how much care they need? At the least, one hour a day. That's a long time! Are you prepared to take care of it this long? Think hard about it and please do research at www.sugarglider.com and www.sugarglider.net to find out accurate diets, ways to have a happy, healthy glider, ect. This isn't a hampster. Take more than one day to think about it.

Ready to help,
Friends of the Sugar Gliders

If the pet store (and, yes, breeder) chooses to keep it up then it may help people to stop making a wrong decision. I'll post my second idea later. Note: This is just a guideline. You can write whatever you want.

But I wonder if pet stores would really go for it. Y'know, negative vibes from their point of view. However, if I ever see a glider in a pet store (haven't come across it yet) I would be willing to approach them with this. It says what needs to be said honestly. Good thinking.

Yeah I know that's what I was thinking. But I thought I should put it up.

i will be willing to take in sugar gliders for the rescue or the RR. I can't drive yet...i could talk my mom into it..maybe...but i can offer my house. I have a special room that is away from everyone, so the gliders will not be placed under any extra stress. I have worked with many rescued animals, not sg's yet, and i know how to care for them. So email me if i'm needed, i'm in the houston/kingwood area.

I'm in Colorado and I do accept gliders for rescue. Any rescues that I take in are kept permanently as I'm never sure of what damage previous owners may have done.

I would be happy to help with sg's rescue and rr. I would also be willing to find homes and or keep any sg's that need our help. I have 6 sg's and have cages and space for more. I live in northern Illinois and travel monthly to Michigan. My husband is a truck driver and travels frequently through WI.,IN.,MI.,and ILL. So if you need me contact me at Kathy1toy@aol.com I'd be honored to help our tiny friends.
