sorry about the first two posts, I kept on pushing the wrong button. Anyways, I have a question about Leadbeaters diet. Do I have to feed my kid crickets/bugs with that diet? Or can I just put the food in with some fruits and some veggies? I coulded find the Baby cereal so I use two chicken baby foods instead. Isnt that enoough protien?  I am confused by this whole diet, but Sklyer, the  really seems to love it so I will do anything to stick with it.

If you just give fruits and vegies and no bugs, your little guy won't be getting enough protien. The insects are a part of the balanced diet.

Maria, I am using the leadbeaters, and with leadbeaters you have a choice to use two jars of chicken baby food which gives him lots more protien.

Even with the two jars of baby food chicken you are supposed to feed bugs daily. It is an importiant part of their diet.

The choice to use 2 jars of chicken is due to the original High Protien Baby Cerial not being available here in the U.S.A. It isn't meant to replace the insects.

Do I have to feed them bugs daily? I never knew that. What if he doesnt like them. And when I have the bugs were would I keep them, I mean I wont run to the petstore everyday and get bugs for him. I read this book on gliders and it says you CAN give them bugs as a treat but not daily.

Skyler, insects are an important part of a sugar gliders diet. There are many options to make things easier for you. You can buy freeze-dried crickets and mealworms in a jar, freeze crickets, and insectavore-fare semi-moist pellet food has insects in its ingredients. I prefer to feed live crickets and mealworms because it is good fun to my gliders and it simulates their natural diet. I feed 2 large crickets and 2 large mealworms per glider every night and they can never get enough LOl. Good luck ;)

Well I guess I will start giving my glider bugs, but I have 3 questions to ask. How many do I feed a day or Do I have to feed them bugs everyday? Do They leave any mess behide after eating the crickets?? Well please write back!

Just give as many as your glider will eat (well not in my case my gliders would probably eat till they burst). Try one mealie and then see if they will eat another one. Yes, you should feed them insects everyday (if you miss a day your gliders will survive). With crickets some gliders will not eat the head or leave a few little pieces left in the morning, but you just throw it out (I know its icky). I put crickets in my fridge for an hour before I feed them to my gliders to make them still (they sort of fall asleep when they are really cold). Then I give them to my gliders

Skylar, first off try breaking it in half (mealies) seee if they will lick the guts. If that don't work and they are eating the leadbeaters, cut them up in three or four ieces and lay them on top of the leadbeaters each day make the pices bigger till you have them in half, once they taste the guts, it will be hard to keep them from snatching them up. some peole take a fish bowl and put crickets in there and allow their glider to chase them down. All my joeys are eating the guts by the time they are weaned.
LOL you may also show them they are tasty and eat one in front of them look I am just kidding i have to say this cause i am thinking of MsShell, and she would kill me if I didn't tell you I was only kidding..

There are many methods to get them to eat bugs but a lot of gliders will just naturally love them. Have you offered them yet? I personalyl prefer feeding mealworms. You cna buy them and keep them in the fridge. They go into a dormant stage...so when you get them out they will barely move. That way you can hand it right to the glider. First try offering it a few times and see if they will eta it...if not we can give you many methods to try. Different methods will work for different gliders. I just tried offering a worm several times and finally my glider decided he would try it and he loved it.

Hi agian, well havent offered my glider any yet and wont be able to for the next 4 to 5 days. I have to go out of town tomorrow and my mother has offered to babysit. She is not ta GLIDER person and wouldnt even think about giving him worms. She is petrified of skyler and he isnt that found of her either

Okie well have a great trip and try it when you get back..let us know what happens..I was just being lazy by not telling you the different methods you could try. i thought it would be easiest just to have you offer them and see what happens. I am sure 4 days is not going to kill your glider is she doesn't get some bugs.

Kill her? No. P i s s her off? YES! I was out of mealies for a while, and one night we had spaghetti... I threw in a few pieces of noodles for my babies. Baron ran down a grabbed one, ripped it in half and tasted it. He threw one piece over his shoulder like a kid does after he opens something dumb like socks at X-mas and looked at me like I was trying to trick him and he wa in no way falling for it! My advice? Pasta has no guts... get some mealies! hehehe

I just read on another post that skylar was a male (or I think I read that). Anyways this person has never feed bigs before...so they aren't going to start for 4 days. Since the glider has never had bugs..I doubt he will be p issed off after 4 days of still never having them!! heheh duh!!!
